What is the current status of stopping field burning. I live in Benewah County and am severely affected by the smoke. I am disabled with multiple sclerosis. I can not breath when they burn. I live 12 miles from Plummer but the smoke always drifts over here and makes me sick. Is there any hope of it ever stopping or do i need to permanently move out of the area?
The short answer is that Idaho does not regulate burning on the Coeur d’Alene reservation. Cannot by treaty. Unless something changes I think we will see crop residue burning continue in the near and middle future.
I would suggest that you call the Idaho DEQ hotline whenever you are impacted. It could have an effect but it might take a while. There is no penalty for calling so call as often as you like and encourage others to call. The more the regulators know the better they can do their job, part of which is protecting public health. The number is (800) 345-1007.
Thanks for your comment.
I live in Pullman and the past 3 days have been so bad, I usually can see Kamiak Butte from my house but haven’t been able to the past few mornings and early afternoons. I finally drove out to KB and saw the fields that were burned. I haven’t been able to open my windows or doors and avoid going out as much as possible. I have asthma and so does my 6 yr old son. I really want to get involved in working towards reducing burning but preferably banning it all together. Also would like the County of Whitman to issue air-quality alerts on days like this. Please help!
Hey, I can’t view your site properly within Opera, I actually hope you look into fixing this.
Brittany,
We tested it here and can’t find a problem. What version of Opera are you using?
